Children and Young People’s Service
We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone.
Mental health is about how we think, feel and act. Just like physical health: everybody has it and we need to take care of it.
Our mental health is on a spectrum, and can range from good to poor.
Good mental health can help you to think positively, feel confident and act calmly.
Helping children and young people to understand mental health problems
If you have poor mental health, you might find that the way you’re thinking, feeling or acting becomes difficult to cope with. You might not enjoy things you used to like doing.
We can all feel sad, worried, angry or fed up at times – like nerves before an exam or feeling down when a friend moves away. But if these feelings last a long time, like if you always feel low or can’t sleep, or you feel like you can’t control how you feel or behave, then it might be a sign that you need more help. For example, if the way you feel:
- affects you most days
- stops you from doing the things you enjoy
- makes you feel like you can’t cope anymore.
Mental health problems are very common. They are not a sign of weakness and can happen to anyone. People can experience mental health problems differently, too.
There are a couple of really useful pages for young people on the national Mind website:
To help you understand your feelings – why you may be feeling the way you do and how feelings and mental health are linked, read more here
To help you understand mental health – what it is, what can cause mental health problems and how you can look after your mental health, read more here

Nursing and recovery support: St Clair Gardens
Providing an additional component to Coventry and Warwickshire Mind’s care pathway, our purpose built mental health recovery unit opened in April 2018.
St Clair Gardens is staffed 24 hours per day by a fully trained and supported nursing, therapy and recovery support team.
The dedicated recovery centre provides care and support to adults who may currently be receiving their treatment in hospital or secure settings.
St Clair Gardens is registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as a Care Home with Nursing.
Housing support in Coventry
We manage a wide range of properties, which are located in various parts of Coventry and consist of single flats/bedsits and a number of shared houses for 2–8 people.
Our service matches a person to an appropriate property, and then provides practical and emotional support to enable the person to maintain and sustain their tenancy.
All properties are furnished to a high standard to ensure that individuals are comfortable in their surroundings.
Our Community Support Service may also be able to provide a higher level of recovery-focussed support to people living within one of our properties if this is required.
How can people access the service?
Referrals may be sent and, if appropriate, a face-to-face assessment will be carried out. We will also need a copy of current care plan/s and risk assessment before we can process the referral.
To access the service, we will need to receive a referral from any of the following:
-
-
- Adult Health & Community Services
- GP
- Other voluntary or independent organisations

The Intensive Recovery Support Service is a creative, flexible, recovery based support service designed to meet the needs of individuals who require a higher level of support than is currently available through floating support and other housing related support services.
People experiencing mental health problems often need to feel safe and supported to enable them to explore their options for independence, and this has been created through the approach of the Intensive Recovery Support Service.
We can support people already living in the community, making the transition from hospital back to their own accommodation, or living in supported accommodation, where the current level of support is not sufficient to meet their needs.
The service has successfully registered with Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Who we support
We will help, support and guide people through the difficult period of leaving hospital or other rehabilitation / care provisions, through those first tentative steps back into the community and independence. We will focus our support on key areas that underpin the transition to independence, using the recovery star model of support planning to ensure that individuals are planning their own goals and outcomes. These include:
Setting up and maintaining a tenancy
• Developing domestic and life skills
• Advocacy and liaison
• Managing finances and benefit claims
• Emotional support and advice
• Accessing other services
• Establishing personal safety and security
• Maintaining a healthy lifestyle
• Exploring spiritual and faith needs
• Establishing supportive relationships in the community
• Getting support to look at future employment
• Support with some aspects of personal care

IAPT
About us
IAPT is a service provided by the NHS Partnership Trust and CW Mind for people who are feeling stressed, anxious, low in mood or depressed. We can provide advice, information and therapy.
Who is it for?
It is a service for people age 16 and above, who are registered with a GP in Coventry and Warwickshire and who feel stressed, anxious, low in mood or depressed. Ideally, you will be ready to make changes in your life and be wanting to build on your strengths and learn new coping skills.
How can I contact you?
You can refer yourself to the IAPT service by calling: 024 7667 1090 Monday to Friday 9am-4.30pm (excluding Bank Holidays).
Your GP may well have recommended that you contact the service.
What will happen when I contact you?
We will take your details and initially we will offer an assessment to discuss what would be most helpful to you. The first step will generally be a telephone appointment, so please let us know if this is a problem for you. Your telephone appointment will be within 28 days of your first call to the services.
What can I expect?
You will be able to talk about your concerns; this is only available by telephone at present.
You will be listened to without judgement.
You will have an opportunity to talk through issues you feel are important and how these can be addressed.
At the end of the assessment we will discuss the next steps with you.
If IAPT is the best service to help you, you will be offered a choice of evidence based Psychological Interventions that are appropriate for your needs. This may include the following:
- Psychological Education courses
- Computerised CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)
- Guided self-help, helping you manage your symptoms.
- Group or Individual Therapy
- Books on prescription where available and recommended helpful reading
IAPT also provide information about other local resources that might be helpful. It may be that IAPT is not the best service to help you, or that you need more than IAPT is able to offer. If so, we will help you to find other services that are better suited to your needs.
How will I know it is helping me?
Your progress will be reviewed through discussion and regular use of short, simple questionnaires.
Our Staff
Our staff work in four locality teams based in Coventry, Rugby, North Warwickshire and South Warwickshire. This means we can provide you with support close to where you live or in the locality of your choice.
The service is run jointly by Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership Trust and Coventry & Warwickshire Mind.
All staff are trained in the use of psychological therapies.
