About Us
Cornwall Mind your local mental health charity
Cornwall Mind (formerly Carrick and Restormel Mind) provides a range of wellbeing services for people who experience mental health problems. Cornwall Mind was formed in 2019 but both Carrick and Restormel Mind have been supporting local people for over 26 years.
With over one in four people experiencing a mental health problem in Cornwall the need for good quality mental health support, advice and information is vital.
Our Vision
We won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect.
Our Mission
We endeavour to prevent those who are vulnerable from developing mental health issues. We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding of mental health. We work throughout Cornwall.
Our Goals
Staying well: Support people likely to develop mental health problems, to stay well
Empowering choice: Empower people who experience a mental health problem to make informed choices about how they live and recover
Improving services and support: Ensure people get the right services and support at the right time to help their recovery and enable them to live with their mental health problem
Enabling social participation: Open the doors to people with experience of mental health problems participating fully in society
Removing inequality of opportunity: Gain equality of treatment for people who experience both mental health and other forms of discrimination

Our Wellbeing Services

Our current wellbeing groups and services are listed under the headings – Active, Community and Creative Minds.
We provide recovery focused services and activities throughout the County. We work with people to support them in achieving their goals and engaging in their local communities.
Active Minds – There are many studies which have shown that doing physical activity can improve mental health. Spending time in green space or bringing nature into your everyday life can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing.
We offer activity focused and outdoor groups such as gardening and walking.
Community Minds – Being part of a community can have a positive effect on mental health and wellbeing. Community involvement provides a sense of belonging and helps tackle social isolation.
We offer groups such as Community cafes and radio show workshops, these help build links with local communities.
Creative Minds – We know lots of people find being creative really helps their mental health and wellbeing. Creativity can help relieve stress and improve mood. Nourishing our natural creativity can help build and protect resilience and speed up recovery.
We offer creative focused groups such as art, creative writing and music groups.

Active Minds
Being physically active means sitting down less and moving our bodies more. There are many studies which have shown that doing physical activity can improve mental health. Getting active can reduce anxiety and stress, combat low mood and increase self-esteem, it makes you feel good inside and out.
Spending time in green space or bringing nature into your everyday life can benefit both your mental and physical wellbeing. For example, doing things like growing food or flowers, exercising outdoors or being around animals can have lots of positive effects. It can:
- improve your mood
- reduce feelings of stress or anger
- help you take time out and feel more relaxed
- improve your physical health
- improve your confidence and self esteem
- help you be more active
- help you make new connections
- provide peer support
We offer activity focused and outdoor groups such as gardening and walking. All our groups are facilitated by trained staff and volunteers.
Community Minds
Being part of a community can have a positive effect on mental health and wellbeing. Community involvement provides a sense of belonging and helps tackle social isolation. Our Community groups provide opportunity for peer support and can bring extra meaning and purpose to everyday life.

Creative Minds
We know lots of people find being creative really helps their mental health and wellbeing. Creativity can help relieve stress and improve mood. Our creative groups help connect people in the community and provide social interaction and the opportunity to learn new skills which can boost confidence and self esteem. Nourishing our natural creativity can help build and protect resilience and speed up recovery.
If you have mental health problems you can often become isolated, and being part of recovery focused activities really can make a difference. We offer creative focused groups such as art, creative writing and music groups.
